PanO, Butcher and a post a week

Greetings,

Here is my Aquila Guard with a HMG. He is one rather scary guy in game. If he had camouflage or an ODD he would be insane. The jacket was annoying to do, but it worked out well.

Here is the Butcher. He was really fast to paint I was thinking of doing a massive blood spatter on the axe, but I was unsure about having more red/crimson on the model as he already has a lot.

I have also managed to get 52 posts in a year, so woo me! Hopefully I'll be able to keep this up in the future.

Recent WIP and ramblings....

Greetings,

I do apologise for the lack of posts recently. It is not for a lack of gaming, modelling and painting though.

Retribution of Scyrah

I have been looking at getting a Retribution army since I went back to England for my extended furore. I like the idea behind them, I just wish they weren't Elves!
At the moment I only have Rahn and two Phoenix Myrmidons. Rahn is probably the best caster from the faction in general. He has a huge pool of Focus and a good selection of spells. He can throw people about through his telekinetic spells and his feat helps any spell-casting Retribution unit with increased range, accuracy and damage.
The Phoenix Myrmidons are the most expensive in the Retribution list at the moment. Each Phoenix also have a shield system that can regenerate for free so long as it isn't broken and it can be forced to heal even more. I can potentially heal 2 to 9 shield points out of 10 in a single turn if I need to. They also have a shooting attack, two melee attacks, a close range AOE (Area of Effect) flame attack and it is also an arc node. So these things can do range, close up work, close up anti-horde, have regenerating shields and they can increase the casters influence by increasing his spell threat range. What is wrong with them? Well they only have 24 damage boxes. With the regenerating shields, this is mitigated, but if that system is destroyed they are up a creek without a paddle. As well as losing the shield it can't shoot any more. I really need to get one of the Retribution mechanics to run after these guys., but that is a bit down the line. As it stands I have 14 Points of them ands 25 is pretty much the smallest that is played at Orctown.

Oh, and yes, I know I have another eye-searing orange army. There was no way in Hell that I was going to do a white force though!

PIGGIES!!!!

Danish bacon, Danish bacon, Danish bacon, yummy, yummy, yummy, yummy, yum, yum, yum!

*ahem!*

Here are the current non-character Pigs and my two main Farrow casters. I have had four games with them and I will say that the Farrow are interesting. Carver can definitely deal with a lot of threats with a limited arsenal and Arkadius is a headache to play and apparently hard to deal with.
I am currently painting up the War Hogs and Rorsch and Brine, before I do the last gun Boar. This is because I'm kinda tempted to make the Gun Boar look like Miss Piggy from the Muppets...

Infinity

Knights running around with lightsabers? I'll take 17 please!

For those who don't know me, I grew up on tales of Robin Hood and King Arthur with a dash of Star Wars thrown in. I think it is one reason why I click more with Warhammer over 40K from an aesthetic point of view. The main issue that I am having with Warhammer at the moment is the sheer number of models needed for an army. Even my Ogres are bordering on the ridiculous! I wanted to have a skirmish game that was full of gorgeous models, supported by the parent company and had multiple cheap starting boxes for each faction. A German friend of mine meandered into Orctown about a year ago for the first time and asked if we played Infinity here. At that time we didn't. For the past month and a half we have been playing Infinity a lot. Getting the rules down and when the boss at Orctown got in the starter boxes they literally disappeared in a week! the only issue we have at the moment is the relative lack of terrain at Orctown, which is being remedied though.

My faction is the PanOceania Military Orders. Knights with lightsabers and guns! Und dey have zer PANZERFAUST!!! *ahem* I apologise for my totally stereotypical English attempt at a very strong German accent. I only have 'Allo, 'Allo to work from.
These guys are hard in close combat. The Koreans are having issues thinking past the fact that a Ninja and Samurai is still seen as the epitome of Eastern close combat. They have also ascribed to the view that anything that the West did in the same period couldn't cope with the martial art skills. I have been trying to disabuse them of that notion by giving impromptu history lectures awhile playing the game. It has been rather fun getting a reply of, "So they didn't just swing it and hope that it killed him then? They had training?" albeit in much more fractured English.
I really like the system, although it does feel weird throwing a handful of d20's though... It is a lot more cinematic than most other games that I have played with. One of the most cinematic moments that I have had was my Magister Knight running from cover to cover taking an automatic reaction shot against a stealthed missile launcher guy. I needed a 5 or less on a d20. I rolled the 5 and then we found out what happened. My shot ignored armour and caused automatic wounds. The guy was toast and my opponent wasn't angry because of how hard it was to pull the shot off. He lost, but even losing in Infinity is more fun that in 40K or fantasy. The sheer choice of tactics and randomness in it is amazing.
I will say that we have played about 30+ games as a group, we still aren't using all of the rules. It is a hard game to get into rules-wise, but if you want a totally different mindset for a game give it a go.

I painted up my Knights with a similar colour scheme. red and Blue tabards, Knights get blue at the bottom red at the top, while other minions get the reverse and they get the Korean ying-yang (taeguk or 태국) on the face plate and on their base. The minions get this reversed, because I messed up...
Here is some prior warning, although the miniatures are gorgeous, they occasionally have weird points for their moulding and they are damned fiddly.

Hopefully I will have at least one more post before February is out... Apologies for my ineptitude of taking photos and making a post on even a semi-regular basis.

Painting update... Ummm... Yeah... They are Lizardmen really...

Greetings,

I didn't feel upto painting a mass of scales so I decided to mess about with a few models that have recently become mine.

Khador Manhunter.

Took about 2 hours with him. I got this guy off of one of my Korean friends for 5000 won. The only issue with it is I don't like the basing material he put on it. It is ugly as sin in my eyes.
I'm impressed by how the muscles have turned out on him. But I know I over did it a bit...

Escaping Rogue Ex-Imperial Pilot formerly attached
to the Emerald Tears purloining an 8-pack of booze.

I was given this guy by one of my Korean friends as payment for me pinning a few of his models. A simple colour scheme all things considered. The smock has the same orange scheme as I did on my Khador Jacks. The armour was the vibrant red. The pants, Deneb and Devlan. Nothing too complex, but he should fit in with most of the Emerald Tears even considering his dubious origins...

Khador

Greetings,

Here are some photos of my Khador forces at the moment. I've played some games, but at the moment I haven't got the width and depth to really deal with what people throw at me. I need more Winter Guard, which I'll be getting when I'm back in the UK. I'm also looking at getting Karchev, because he's a nutter!
I'm not getting totally pantsed as of yet, but I'm not able to get good dice karma for Sorscha to do what she is supposed to do best. That being for her to re-arrange someone's face with her pickaxe-halberd-thingy... Ummm... Yeah...

I still have two more Widowmakers to finish off, but they shouldn't take me too long to do. The main issue I have is making the camo look subtle and effective. Varying shades of greens and browns with inks help in that regard.
I am still naming all of them individually in the Khador script using Slavic names and some rather stereotypical ones as well...

Hope you like the piccies. I'll try and put up some other bits up over the next few weeks afore I go back to the UK. I'm not going to be on hiatus when I'm back in the UK, but I'll be going hither and thither seeing friends and dealing with paperwork for a new job in Korea. If I do put any posts up it will be mainly Nid related.

Random 2010 WFB League photos and More Khador...

Greetings,

Just to break up from the massive wall of text that was the last post here are pictures from last weekend. The top 7 are from the Orctown WFB League 2010. The games were Daemons vs Vampire Counts, Daemons vs Lizardmen and Lizardmen vs Lizardmen.

Here are some pictures of my Winter Guard that I bought on the weekend. I still see the Khador symbol as a Skaven glyph though...
Sorry that the photos are dark. The camera flash was too severe and the sun was being highly uncooperative....
I used a similar scheme to my Warjacks and my Bretonnians. They look pretty good in my opinion. Not as bright and shiny as PP's stuff, and I think it looks better. I always prefer the gritty and slightly shabby instead of the new paint job that a lot of other modellers like.

Finished Khador

Greetings,

I have finished painting and naming my 3 Khador models that I have at the moment and I played my first game of Warmachine at Orctown yesterday.
It was a close run thing, and I don't think that the guy whom I played against was going easy on me. I was doing quite well until the last turn when dice karma kicked in...

JAAASOOOOOOOOOONNN!!!!

*ahem*

This little outburst will be talked about in a later post.

I did enjoy it though. It will take time for me to get used to the totally different way of gaming as compared to the GW, Black Powder or the other systems that I play.

First, here are some family shots of the Khador minis I have. I haven't done anything else to the first two Khador models as they don't need them, but I did manage to borrow some Khador miniatures from the gaming club at Dolgoji, 'Miniatures Zone,' because of being invited there on several occasions and not freaking them out...

Here is a good picture of Sorscha's face that Jude, the boss at Orctown did for me. Ivan is the Warjack on the left Pyotr is on the right. The symbols are a simple substitution script that Privateer Press use for the Khador language.

On the reverse is word USSR as I was going to have a Soviet style symbolism as my schtick for them. Hammer and sickle, Soviet star et al. After I tried to paint it I decided against it. The USSR bit is staying, everything else was too much effort to keep consistant.

Toxic Orange Blood Angels (AKA The Emerald Tears) and Khador minis

Greetings,

Here are the Terminators that I have painted up for my Blood Angels successor Chapter. I used to use them as basic Marines, but since I didn't want to go Mech or Deep strike they couldn't cut it very well.

The models are 10 Black Reach, 5 basic Termies and the ones from Space Hulk.

I'll get some better pictures tonight when the light is more even (and after I dust the models).
The paint scheme is pretty much Solar Mecharius Orange, Dehneb Stone then playing around with the GW inks. Even if you aren't a fan of GW paints normally try the inks. They can be painted over and layered so that you have multiple ahades showing through. This is how I achieved the funky powerfists.
It was my Bretonnians where I went to town with the washes. I'll go over this when I look at my Brets in the future though.

Here are some pictures of my Khador. Sorscha's face is not my work, but a quick 15 minute job from the boss of Orctown on Saturday.

I will warn anyone who hasn't built metal models from Privateer Press that they do look hellishly ugly and they are most definitely ones that frustrated me. The plugs for the arms of the Warjacks were horrible to get the arms to stay in with superglue. I went through a third of a bottle of GW superglue (since I hadn't been to a model shop to get better), and I used a mess of Zipkicker to try and stick the arms in. It took 3 attempts!

Once they were built I set to this paint scheme, Mechrite Red, Solar Mecharius Orange, Dehneb Stone, Blood Red, Chainmail and Charadon Granite. The inks used were Badab Black, Gryphonne Sepia, Devlan Mud, Baal Red, Arsumen Blue and Leviathan purple.

The orange parts were inked with Baal then Leviathan. The reds were covered just with Leviathan. The cream was hit with Badab. The silver was hit with Badab. The greys/blacks were hit with the blacks and brown inks.

The face of Sorscha I can't comment on unfortunately...
