Greetings,
It has again been a long time updating this blog. Finally got round to it, obviously... Well the last two posts have been about Blood Bowl, this one, is in the same vein.
First up is my Chaos Chosen and Khorne teams. Both look good on the pitch and they are good smashy teams. Chaos are pretty straight forwards as a team, but lacking a defensive combat skill and are not great with ball skills.
Khorne needs to be played by a coach with more skill and luck than me though. I did not play optimally and that led me to some bad frenzy blocks.
Next the Filthy Elveses. The Wood Elves and Elven Union went together quite well and they painted up nicely. The Dark Elves were another story. A pain in the butt to build and they took ages to paint because I did not have a colour scheme that I liked. Finally settled on a burgundy with a drybrush of a vibrant red. This contrasts well with the green of the Cold One hide.
Greenskins are some of the most fun and frustrating teams to play for me. They have a lot of strange things going on with them, Goblins and Snotlings especially, but they are massive risk/reward teams. The Snotlings have yet to be played because it took me a while to get the impetus to paint them. I do not like playing with unpainted teams.
The Orcs get stuff done, but their Animosity can throw a wrench into the coaches' plans on occasion.
My Black Orcs painted up well. They Black Orcs are great miniatures and they are very simple to paint. The Goblin Bruisers were less fun to paint, but they are decent on the pitch.
Halflings took a while to be finished because I wanted a nice treeman for them. Saw GW's effort, and decided to make my own using the old Treekin kit. The Dwarfs were done speedily and I have yet to try them out.
The Ogres have been played a fair amount and they continue to both annoy and surprise me with their plethora or lack of Bonehead rolls. Gnoblars are annoying to play against, my opponents say.
The Human teams. Imperial Nobility was THE most annoying colour scheme to pull off. Using the vibrant green against charcoal grey and black was likely a dumb idea, but they do look good on the pitch. Norse were fun to paint and they are surprisingly good. Block and the Valkeries are the main reasons for my success I think.
The Human team.... I still do not like their models, but they are a good team to start learning how to play with. I still need to finish off their coins.
The Amazons were my fastest team to paint. 3 hours after building, and undercoating. Contrast paints and a bit of Gold, covered with a wash. They are good to play with as well, although they can struggle against some teams.
Nurgle and Lizardmen always look good on the pitch. Lots of niggling details on the Lizardmen, but the Lizards are one of my favourite teams to play with. Nurgle is less fun on the pitch, but they do look awesome.
The Undead teams can also be used as a College of Death team. They have some of the most annoying linemen to put together., but they do paint up nice. I used orange as the unifying colour on both teams so that they can be used as a College of Death team. Not played either of them, but I do like the look of the werewolves...
Underworld were my go to on Blood Bowl 2. A mess of cheap Goblins for fouls and the Skaven for getting things done. The Troll, when he works, can get stuff done. The addition of the Rat Ogre will be much more entertaining though as a big guy. Skaven are one of the easiest teams to pilot for me. Insane speed and ball handling with the thrower and the Gutter Runners, cheap, but fast Linerats and some hitting power in the Rat Ogre and the Blitzers. I would like to see some alternate Skaven Clan teams in the future.
So, that is 22 teams. Only the OWA and Chaos Renegades are not counted amongst the plethora of teams. Blood Bowl scratches an interesting itch for me. It has a simple enough rules set, but a lot of variety in the teams. Also you do not have to go too nuts with painting 847 guys to field a valid force.
We have had a few (2) tournaments with some of the participants using some of my teams for various reasons. We used the Blood Bowl 7's rules as it sped up the games so we could get at least 3 games in per day.
It has been a hell of a journey. Can't wait for the next new things with BB.
Regards,
English Pillock
