HUGE PHOTO ALERT!!! WAB Campaign Turn 2 and the photos I have of turn 3. Part 1

Greetings,

First off I will apologise for the sheer enormity of this post and the mass of photos.

The Remainder of Turn 2

At the end of turn 2 we had a pair of conflicts, both involving the belligerence (or lack thereof) of the Höchster Kaiser der Deutschen (or HK as we know him in real life). His first game was against Hertog van Tsjaad (or Chad in the real world). The Kaiser failed to seize the initiative and the invasion of Hertog van Tsjaad managed to push the Kaiser's forces into retreat.

The second game was between the Kaiser and the forces of Mohammed Gaddafi al Sa'id Ibn Ibn. The Almohad forces, intent upon taking prisoners to work in their multi-storey hotels, smashed into the Kaiser's lines and outmanoeuvred his plodding forces.

HK lost both active field armies so he was forced to create another as his last action of turn 2.

At the end of turn 2 I failed to do my third move as talk of how to make the actions used per campaign turn take a single day to resolve.

Campaign Turn 3

Campaign turn 3 had a few alterations afore we got to the stabby-stabby-killy-killy parts. The Campaign turn phase now has only two actions instead of three, which increased the speed of the turn resolution.

The first game was the glorious forces of the Kaiser invading Hertog van Tsjaad in an attack of REVENGE!!!!! The Kaiser smashed into the forces of the Low Countries. Hertog van Tsjaad and removed the chips and mayonnaise eaters from their land.

A most memorable note from this battle was the heroic actions of the hand gunners. The hand gunners managed to break a unit of Whitehoods and cause a hell of a lot of chaos in the lines of the Low Countries soldiers.
The smiling assassin on the left is the Höchster Kaiser der Deutschen (HK). the guy on the right is the Black Prince of the English Expeditionary Force (me)

After this battle was concluded the forces of the English marched into the Territory of the Almohads. The English deployed in a massive battleline, while the Almohads hid like the cowardly curs that they are.

The Almohads surrendered the initiative  to the English and a re-distribution of English lines brought the cavalry to the fore while the spear armed infantry plodded forward.

On the left is the Black Prince Expeditionary Force (me) arrayed against Mohammed Gaddafi al Sa'id Ibn Ibn (Jude, aka the boss of Orctown)
The Almohad's responded by sending their mercenary Christian shock-cavalry moving to smash into the English lines. Volleys of archer fire were exchanged then the Christian cavalry charged the mounted Men at Arms, who launched a counter charge of their own. After the clash the Christian knights failed to smash through the English knights and they fled the combat not exactly as proudly as they entered it. The English cavalry sauntered after the fleeing knights.

The English cavalry thought that it would be a good idea to charge into a mass of Muslim infantry...
This wasn't such a good idea, but archer fire into the combat weakened the Muslims enough that they were broken and pursued after a protracted combat. The English cavalry managed to pursue past the waiting unit of Black Guard while the archers made the other Muslim units into pin cushions.

The Muslims retreated leaving the English in control of the field.

The third, and final battle of turn three was between the forces of Hertog van Tsjaad and the Almohads. Hertog van Tsjaad invaded the Almohad territory and failed to do anything constructive apart from losing. The Almohads managed to crush the ambitions of the Low Countries with little effort.

All in all the campaign is going much smoother than I had anticipated. Everyone is enjoying the campaign and no one feels as if they are being picked upon or victimised. We have got another three Campaign turns to see if we can keep this optimism up though.

We are already talking about the next campaign. Dark Age Britain or Classical era appears to be the most obvious choices for the players currently.

I will try and get a map image prepped for the next post to you can see the craziness that is the campaign map at the moment.

Blood Bowl

Greetings,

After posting the Dark Elves up before Christmas I thought they they would have been finished before the New Year. Unfortunately I was hit by something horrible. I got hit by apathy. The Dark Eldar models are the main issue for this I think. They are really intricately detailed and for myself, who is not one for a lot of intricate painting is the main issues with them I think.

So running under the old axiom of 'a change is as good as a rest,' I have managed to build two more Blood bowl teams in the past two weeks.

The first team that I built was a Goblin team. I purchased a pair of metal Stone Trolls, a Fanatic plastic box and I went halves with a box of Night Goblins with one of the other gamers at Orctown. This gave me 2 Trolls, 10 Goblins, a Fanatic, a Looney (with a chainsaw on a chain....), a Pogoer (not on a pogo stick, but attached to a bounding squig) and a Bombadier. This is a good selection of Goblin grunts and positionals for a Goblin team.

The other team is Norse. I bought a box of Chaos Marauders and an Ogre Kingdom Yhetee. This gives me 8 or 10 Linemen, 8 or 10 positionals and a Yeti.

I got the Goblin team, just because. A team full of potential but also full of goo. I had a game with them on Sunday against a Lizardmen team being played by a Korean newbie. I scored first, then got 3 smashed in against my by Skinks. There were no casualties on either side, which was, strange, but they were a lot of fun. I need to check their rules a bit more though.

I haven't played the Norse on the table yet. I have played them a lot on the Blood Bowl game on the PC and they are really good. Then again I did start playing Ogres to start with...

Hopefully I will be able to get these guys fully painted soon. Hopefully before Sunday.

In other news, since I have been having sooo much fun pummelling the hell out of people in the Blood Bowl PC game I decided to get together all of the Blood Bowl gamers who go to Orctown and play as many games of Blood Bowl as possible. On Sunday, not only did we get 8 games played on two pitches, we also got some of the Koreans joining in as well. Something that they have talked about doing, but never done in the year that the game was available to buy at Orctown.
Due to the sheer joy of the carnage the remaining Sundays in January are going to be for the Korea Cup. Pretty much run as a basic League for Blood Bowl. Each player must play someone different in the League. The two players with the best 3 scores go into a final game for the imaginary cup. It has been so much fun and there are more people saying that they want in as well. If it goes really well I may try to get people to get teams sorted for a Summer tourney.

Anyway, I'll leave you be with my mindless ramblings.

Chat anon.

Miniatures Zone, Dolgoji, Seoul, South Korea

Greetings,

This is going to be about one of the gaming clubs that I occasionally frequent while I'm over here in Korea.

Miniature Zone

Location: Follow these crude directions...

1) Hop onto line 6 of the Seoul Subway heading towards Bonghwasan ( 봉화산 ) and you want to get off at Dolgoji ( 돌곶이 ).

2) Once at Dolgoji you want to head towards Exit 7 and/or Imunno ( 이문로 ). Go up the steps, no escalator I'm afraid, until you see the sign in picture 3.

3) From here you want to walk for about 200 to 300m (220 to 330 yds) down this side of the street. You don't need to cross the road or turn any corners. You should walk past a Lotteria fast food eatery, a KB Bank and a HiMart electronics store, in that order. If you don't you are lost and I can't help you there...

Sorry...

Once you have walked past these three easily recognisable buildings then you will be close to the side street that Miniature Zone is down.
Once you see the Standard Charter Bank on the corner of a t-junction/ intersection across the road from where you are standing, you are near the side street that you need to turn down. When you reach the following store (note this was its appearance as of 28.05.2010/ 05.28.2010/ 2010.05.28), turn right down the street.

4) It should look like the picture below.

5) You want to walk about 30m (33yds) and Miniature Zone is in a building that looks like the below photo. There is no outward sign that there is a gaming club down there, but....

There is a mark of the noble geek fraternity that we all belong to...

6) You need to walk down two flights of stairs, surrender your soul, pay the ferryman, open the door on your left, and you are there.

Upon my entering the gaming club for the first time I nearly wept from seeing the sheer number of boardgames that were unopened and lying upon the shelf above the television, but it is the rest of the place that takes your breath away.

It is a nice and open club. It doesn't feel like a dark, dank place like some I've been to. There are three 6 x 4 tables there with huge amounts of terrain, lockers if you are a member, an airbrush and an extractor fan, a modelling area with masses of paints, tools and other shinies for the hobby. There is also a computer with army builder and a printer, if you need a list sorted out. There are masses of chairs dotted around the club, but beware; some of the seats aren't secured! I have become a victim of two of the chairs that are like this.

They do have a selection of Games Workshop and Privateer Press rulebooks, if people want to peruse or borrow them. There is also a large selection of Warmachine and Hordes models to borrow, if you wish to.

The guys who frequent this club are mostly Korean, but due to the nature of the hobby they do speak and understand English well. So I wouldn't be afraid of not being able to communicate when you are gaming there.

They mostly play Warmachine and Hordes there at the moment, but I have played Warhammer there fighting the Korean gamer who invited me to game there.

The fee is 5000won, which goes towards heating, light, air-con, electricity, rent, etc... For what you get and the atmosphere of the club it is a pittance to pay.

I am unaware as to the entire opening and closing hours of the club, but I shall endeavour to find out for a future post.

English Pillock
